Measuring the opening - the one rule that prevents almost every problem

Measure width and height at several points and configure with the smallest value you record. Walls in period apartments and older European buildings rarely run in a perfectly straight line, and the partition must fit the tightest point - not the most convenient one. Plaster bows, floors slope a few millimetres over two metres, and corners drift out of square over decades. Steel holds its dimensions exactly; the opening it fits into may not. Take the width measurement at three heights - near the top, in the middle, near the floor - and take the height measurement at three horizontal positions: left edge, centre, right edge.
